Sample Chairperson Job Description

Position Summary:
The chairperson of the Missions & Evangelism Ministry works with the parish priest to provide leadership and direction for a ministry of people dedicated to activities that will lead to the growth of the parish in new members, as well as increased spiritual growth on the part of the parish and each member.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate meetings, events and activities with the parish priest
  • Schedule and call meetings
  • Create & distribute meeting agendas
  • Manage action items and projects
  • Recruit additional parishioners to the ministry with the help of the priest

Candidate Characteristics

  • A member in good standing of the Orthodox Church
  • Understands ecclesiastical structure; seeks the blessing and leadership of the parish priest
  • Self-motivated to continue learning about the Orthodox Christian Faith
  • Committed to the vision of sharing Orthodox Christianity with others
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively

Expectations:
The chairperson, together with the parish priest, will lead the ministry in strategizing and prioritizing the development of a missions and evangelism mindset in the parish, as well as ministries that may include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcome Ministry
  • In-reach/Education
  • Increasing Parish Visibility
  • Annual Mochas for Missions Campaign
  • Bookstore
  • Outreach Events
  • OCMC Ambassador

This ministry team would meet ideally every 3-6 weeks, or at least once per quarter.
